PLACES TO EAT

Whilst staying at High Wray Farm you will enjoy our finely cooked farmhouse breakfast's freshly prepared using local produce, but in the evening you may want to explore the local restuarants and traditional pubs. Based on recommendation, here are a few places you may want to try during your stay...

Please note it may be best to book tables well ahead of arrival.

Tower Bank Arms

This traditional 17th Century Lakeland Inn is situated in the village of Near Sawrey. Many of the illustrations in the famous Beatrix Potter books can be traced back to their origins here, including the Tower Bank Arms, which is featured in The Tales Of Jemima Puddleduck. Hilltop, Beatrix Potters former home, is situated just behind the pub! www.towerbankarms.co.uk

Queens Head Hawkshead

Since the early 17th Century The Queens Head has been welcoming travellers and visitors to the village of Hawkshead. Some things dont change: whether you want to drink or dine you will find the Queens Head the perfect place; our celebrated restaurant, awarded an AA Four Star for culinary excellence has a menu to suit all tastes. Whether it is lunch or an evening meal, the Queens Head offers a warm welcome and good food to those in search of a relaxed and traditionally English environment.

The Drunken Duck

The Duck is famous for its food and beer and also the relaxed and informal atmosphere of the three restaurant areas - two very traditional and one more modern.

The emphasis here is very much on excellent quality, locally sourced food and unobtrusive but attentive service.  www.drunkenduckinn.co.uk

We also suggest

The Outgate Inn

Cuckoo Brow Inn, Far Sawrey
Zeffirellis, Ambleside - Cinemas and Restaurants

Cannot praise this fantastic B and B enough. Wonderful old farmhouse with every thing a guest would ever need catered for by the friendly host Sheila. Rooms are great, there is a warm and cosy sitting room with TV and the occasional visit from the friendly cat Pippin and the breakfast is possibly the best we have ever had in the lakes or anywhere else.

Location is quiet, but with scenic walks close by to the Western shores of Windermere and just a couple of miles to Hawkshead where we had excellent evening meals at the Sun Inn and Red Lion pubs

Oh and can`t forget Sheila`s lemon cake. Just yummy!

Overall a great couple of days.
